The Promise of Impending Adventure

http://musicfeeds.com.au/
2.30am is not an easy time to wake up for anyone, but it is certainly made easier by the promise of impending adventure. Today is a warm up, a mere taste of the air that will surround our big trip in June. Squish, Lobster, Squish’s little sister and I are taking on Melbourne, Australia for the Soundwave music festival. This is my third year heading to Soundwave, though my first to join the Melbourne leg. Squish and I hit Brisbane for it last year and decided to switch it up this time.

A now-familiar air of anticipation is looming. As we walk through the airport it is easy to pick out potential festival-goers. An edgier style, a band t-shirt, a suitcase big enough only for a long weekend. Sure enough, these people sit near me in the air.

Mini-squish has attended few concerts before this and a full-day festival in another country is a decent step up. Proving that age and experience do not make you any less excitable, Squish, Lobster and I have been counting down the days for months. The line up dwarfs that of last year by miles, at least for us. Brisbane 2010 saw headliners Faith No More take the stage, although the stand out set for me was Janes Addiction, true showmen and long time idols of mine. 2011 eclipses this by miles - headliners Iron Maiden, Queens of the Stone Age and Slayer sent tickets screaming out the door and most legs of the tour sold out very quickly. The true cause of our excitement however is a double whammy - Squish's favourite band of all time, Sevendust, and my favourite musician of all time, Slash, are both in attendance.

The level of anticipation extends even to those in the bands. Twitter is buzzing with musicians excited to play the festival. Slash's bass player, Todd Kern, blogs of seeing fellow acts on his flight and having his idols watch from the side of the stage as the band plays.

When a world-touring musician is thrilled by a line-up, you know it's good. Bring it on! Next stop, Melbourne.
